The power of ‘womenpreneurs’ in e-commerce and outsourcing

Published Apr 03, 2023 2:00 pm

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) make up 99.5% of the Philippines’ business landscape, earning them the moniker “backbone of the economy.” Worth noting is how over 50% of newly opened businesses in 2022 were spearheaded by women, specifically WMSMEs or women-owned micro, small, and medium enterprises, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

In celebration of International Women’s Month in March, Globe Business honors two WMSMEs who are thriving in the eCommerce and BPO industries: Hiyasmin Neri-Soyao of Shoppertainment Live and Rachelle Grace Olivar of IPASS Business Outsourcing.

Live-shopping streams

Enhancing the online live selling experience for both merchants and their customers, Shoppertainment Push Live broadcasts streams across Asia from their Philippine headquarters. The team powers back-to-back-to-back live shopping streams every day, with a maximum capacity of 30-50 streams per day, including simul-streams per hour.

“We broadcast product and brand launches, live shopping streams for e-commerce and social commerce, which have become essential to the marketing and sales efforts of several companies in the new normal,” said Soyao.

Because of the nature of the business, high-speed internet is crucial to the efficiency and scalability of Shoppertainment Live. Globe Business helps Soyao and her team stay constantly connected through a premium internet service utilizing leased-line technology to deliver high-speed internet access, allowing them to enjoy full access to their subscribed bandwidth, and keep their business running with no delays through a reliable internet connection with up to 99.8% uptime.

To further enhance the company’s culture and improve streaming services, Shoppertainment focused on the digitalization of another aspect of the business: human resources. With the help of Globe Business Cloud Payroll, the company was able to manage its manpower which quickly grew at an average of 100% in the past three years.

“Automating HR tasks which included convenient monitoring of our team's attendance, overtime, and pay history including bonuses, has allowed our HR team to do more strategic tasks and maintain a positive work culture. This gave us room to grow our business more,” she shared.

“Investing in these solutions has given us the peace of mind that our operations and broadcasts will be fast and excellent as we service our over 250 brand clients.”

Providing licensure processing services

As for IPASS Outsourcing Services, Olivar drew entrepreneurial inspiration from her own experiences as a former nurse, particularly the difficulties she and her colleagues faced when they were applying for their licenses. Since then, IPASS has been providing global-standard licensure processing services, enabling Filipino nurses to pursue their dreams.

Olivar said IPASS’s processes have been greatly improved by their partnership with Globe Business, especially with the digital innovations introduced to their company.

"Due to the company's varied services, IPASS Processing is a prime example of a business that greatly benefits from digital innovations," Olivar explained.

Globe Business, through a fully managed Internet Protocol (IP) telephony, has enabled her company's network to function intelligently and be flexible enough to satisfy the various requirements of the business. This allows multiple separate lines or voice channels, giving IPASS the capacity to cater to more customers at the same time.

Olivar added that this also paved the way for a simplified internal workflow, improving response times and efficiently accomplishing business operations.

Globe Business empowering WMSMEs

Through womenpreneurs like Soyao and Olivar, Globe hopes to reach more WMSMEs seeking the right tools and mentorship to run their own businesses. Armed with the right technology, they can better achieve work-life balance—caring for their well-being while managing their finances and careers.

“At Globe Business, we want success to just keep on coming to our women entrepreneurs,” said KD Dizon, MSME group head of Globe Business. “With our different innovations and enriching programs that have their needs in mind, we’re certain womenpreneurs will keep surprising and achieving ‘tuloy-tuloy na success’ in their businesses.”
