The trailer for The Matrix: Resurrections, the fourth installment in the Matrix franchise, has finally been released to the public.

Warner Bros. unveiled the first official trailer on Thursday (Sept. 9), giving fans a glimpse of what’s in store for Keanu Reeves' Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity when they get plugged back into the Matrix, a simulated reality which intelligent machines have created to distract humans while using their bodies as an energy source.

Neo and Trinity reunite in the fourth film of the franchise which first debuted in 1999. The third film, The Matrix: Revolutions, was released 18 years ago.

The movie's official website was relaunched to tease the trailer's release on Tuesday, inviting viewers to pick a red or blue pill. Depending on your choice and the time of day, you'd be treated to different footage from the sci-fi adventure.

The minimalist image of the red pill and the blue pill also serves as the first poster for the upcoming film.

Major stars are reprising their iconic roles from the original trilogy, including Reeves as Neo, Moss as Trinity, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe.

Produced, co-written, and directed by Lana Wachowski, the film also stars  Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (HBO's Watchmen), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Jonathan Groff (Glee), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (TV’s Quantico), Christina Ricci (Sleepy Hollow), and more.

Check out the first official trailer below.

Originally billed as a theater exclusive, The Matrix Resurrections is now set to be released both in theaters and on HBO Max on Dec. 22, 2021.
