Warner Bros. debuted the first action-packed footage for the long-awaited Matrix 4 film, titled The Matrix: Resurrections, to CinemaCon audiences in Las Vegas on Tuesday evening.

Neo and Trinity reunite in the first footage from the fourth installment in the defining sci-fi action Matrix films, which first debuted in 1999. The third film, The Matrix: Revolutions, was released 18 years ago.

Major stars are reprising their iconic roles from the original trilogy, including Keanu Reeves as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe.

Lana Wachowski is returning to direct the fourth entry in the cult classic franchise which debuted more than two decades ago, without her sister and former directing partner, Lilly.

New stars join the Matrix family in undisclosed roles, including Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra, Christina Ricci, and Jessica Henwick.

CinemaCon audiences, who watched the full trailer which has yet to be released online, have high praise for what they saw and what's in store for audiences.

As reported by Deadline, the trailer opens in a near future San Francisco, with Neo seemingly unaware of who he is, much like his character in the first film.

Neil Patrick Harris plays his therapist in a brief scene of Neo shown in a therapy session. Neo says, "I've had dreams that don't seem like dreams. Am I crazy?" before the trailer shows flashbacks to events of the original trilogy.

Initial footage screened at CinemaCon also showed Trinity and Neo reuniting, but the characters don't seem to know each other even though they think they do.

There's no word yet as to when the trailer will officially drop on social media, but with the film scheduled for release in a few months, it won't be long before audiences can watch the full trailer online for themselves.

The Matrix Resurrections is slated for a theatrical release on December 22, 2021.
