These events will get you out of the house this month

By Bea Amador Published Mar 05, 2020 5:00 am

Lately, my almost-but-not-quite adult self has been really tired for a number of reasons. I haven’t been going out of the house as much and if it’s not for work, I don’t really bother to step out of my building at all (let alone get dressed up and do my makeup).

Frankly, I’m slowly feeling like an 87-year-old grandma with four cats, just waiting for her time to come. I’ve been meaning to find out where I should spend my very little free time, and while traffic may be unbearable most of the time, I really, really just wanna go out and feel like the 20-year-old that I am.

So if you’re like me, whose youth has been in dormant mode because it really just be like that sometimes — here are some events that may just get you out of your house. You’re welcome.

Ikarus Pocket Plays Bar Tour (March 6 and 7)

Theater season is upon us, and with an overwhelming number of shows opening this month (and even this weekend alone!), it’s a feat to choose which ones are worth spending your hard-earned dime for. So for all of you who want to get into the world of theater but are still pretty clueless (read: intimidated) about the whole shebang, Ikarus Theater’s Pocket Plays is the right event for you.

Since February, Ikarus Theater has been going around the Metro to showcase plays in non-theater settings, and what’s more, it’s a pay-what-you-can affair! The last two stops are on March 6 at the Tago Jazz Bar and on March 7 at the Malingap Central Food Hall. Show starts at 8 p.m.

For more information, check out Facebook page.
Overexposed Film Fair (March 7)

Film has never really been truly dead, and with an ever-growing crowd of enthusiasts who want to learn the ins and outs of film photography, the Overexposed Film Fair is here to the rescue.

Over 20 vendors of film cameras, accessories, prints, and artworks are joining the fair, and everyone with a heart for film photography is welcome to join and talk about anything about analog photography.

Overexposed Film Fair is at Warehouse Eight. For more information, check out their event page.
Beat Roots 001 (March 14)

What better way to get moving this month than by dancing to some good music?

Beat Roots is an event series featuring the best from the local music scene, and its first installment will be opened by sets and performances by Les Meladroits, Salamangka, as well as a collaborative show by The Hernandez Brothers & Lustbass. Entrance is free, but slots are limited so RSVP before they run out.

Show starts at 8 p.m. at the Draper Startup House. For more information, check out their event page.
Art in the Part (March 15)

Every year, the Jaime Velasquez Park in Makati becomes the perfect spot for artists and art enthusiasts who may have felt like they still needed their art fix after February’s Art Fair.

Art in the Park supports the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, and ever since 2006, they have been creating awareness for our local museums. This very chill and laid-back affair is open to all, and features artists from all over the country.
