What you need to know about upcoming 'Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred'
A new era of Diablo IV is upon us.
Vessel of Hatred, an upcoming expansion pack, will be dropping on Oct. 8 and it's set to bring big updates, including the new class Spiritborn, a new region, and a campaign.
Excited to play the new DLC? Here's what to expect from Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred.
Welcome to Nahantu
VoH brings players to Nahantu, a new region south of the map of Diablo IV. This jungle, riddled with ancient ruins, trees, and swamps, is overtaken by Mephisto's black ichor. New dungeons and strongholds, where you can fight new enemies like ferocious demons and warring Tribes, await.
The new region also houses new recruitable allies—Raheir the Shieldbearer, Aldkin the Cursed Child, Varyana the Berserker Crone, and Subo the Bounty Hunger—which you can unlock during the main quest.
The story follows Neyrelle, whose mind is slowly becoming corrupted by the evil Mephisto through his soul Soulstone.
The game's campaign features a dark theme which Rex Dickson, the Lead Game Designer, said is one of the hallmark elements of Diablo.
"It is a critical part of our process to ensure tonal consistency across each entry of the franchise. This permeates the visuals as well as the narrative and quest design," he said in a Discord AMA session.
"Our game director sets some high-level themes they want to establish and the teams come together to determine how best to achieve them. This was especially challenging given the warmer color palette of the expansion."
A new class
One of the biggest new features of the expansion pack is the new Spiritborn class, which joins other classes Necromancer, Rogue, Sorcerer, Barbarian, and Druid.
The Spiritborn is the apex predator of the Nahantu jungle identified by their agility and mobility. These warriors take down foes with their glaives, quarterstaves, polearms, and the powers of the four Spirit Guardians.
"Agility was very much one of the things we were focusing on. We wanted to have a class where martial arts was a big part of the playstyle so it just made sense," Diablo IV: VoH game director Brent Gibson said.
New co-op dungeons
The DLC introduces a new end-game co-op activity titled Dark Citadel, where you can rally your friends to sweep through dungeons to earn weekly rewards.
Additionally, there's the Undercity, a new multi-stage time attack dungeon for those who want to level up toward endgame content. In this activity, you'll fight against hordes of demons in a limited time.
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox series X and S, and Windows on Oct. 8. You'll need to have the base Diablo IV game to play this DLC.
