Wearable tech has been around for a few years, and companies are now truly exploring the full potential of things such as smart watches and fitness trackers. It's strapped to your wrist so why not make it do more than just tell time?

First launched in 2015, the Apple Watch is gaining immense popularity for its fitness tracking, not to mention a brand new function on the Series 6 that's sure to grab your attention.

Last September, the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE launched. The Series 6 offers up an attractive set of features, the most significant of which is the blood oxygen monitor. Meanwhile, the SE version presents almost the same set of features, but at an affordable price point which may prove compelling for those who haven't tried out Apple's smart watch lineup yet.

Apple Watch Series 6

For the first time, the Apple Watch Series 6 allows users to measure their blood oxygen levels, thanks to a cluster of green, red, and infrared LEDs and four photodiodes at the back of the device. Additional features include a heart rate monitor, a much brighter always-on OLED retina display, a digital crown with haptic-feedback whenever you turn it, GPS, compass, and an always-on altimeter that adds elevation to your fitness measurements.

The Series 6 also boasts of a S6 SiP (System in a Package) with 64-bit dual-core processor, which is touted to be up to 20 percent faster than the S5 processor that ran the Apple Watch Series 5.

It is also notable that only the Series 6 has the U1 Ultra Wideband chip and antennas that Apple says, "Will enable short-range wireless location to support new experiences, such as next-generation digital car keys." Although unclear yet on what other functions and features the U1 chip offers, there is much potential for its future use when it comes to communicating with other digital devices.

Other features of the Series 6 include a sleep tracker, the ability to reply to calls and messages, play music, and an accelerometer which measures up to 32 g-forces and is an integral part of the watch's fall detection – a welcome feature, coupled with the Emergency SOS function, that may aid in emergencies for people involved in accidents.

There's even a noise monitor that alerts you when decibel levels in the environment start reaching danger levels.

Apple Watch SE

Not to be outdone, the Apple Watch SE practically has the same features of the Series 6, but at a considerably affordable price.

Right off the bat you'll notice that the SE lacks the blood oxygen level feature, U1 Ultra Wideband chip, and uses the S5 processor – which, to be fair, is still much faster than those from previous generations of the watch.

Another difference is the second generation optical heart sensor, and retina OLED display that is not always-on but is of the same size as the Series 6.

Aside from those differences, the SE offers practically the same value and most of the features and functionalities of the Series 6. You still have advanced sensors to track your exercise and fitness needs, sleep tracking, message and call notifications, altimeter, GPS, music player, fall detection, emergency SOS, and noise monitor.

The Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE come in Apple's signature packaging – functional, easy to open, and an experience all in itself.

The Apple Watch includes a removable ultralight Solo Loop soft silicone strap. An included extra strap makes sure that the watch fits small, medium, and large wrist sizes.

Packaging for the Apple Watch Series 6 and SE contains the watch, three Solo Loop straps, a magnetic charging cable, and documentation.

A special UV treatment process used on the soft silicone of the Solo Loop creates a smooth, silky finish.
