Ahead of Christmas, the local chapter of humanitarian aid organization UNICEF has released a limited edition holiday card set featuring the works of the late National Artist for Visual Arts Larry Alcala.

In a press release, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund Philippines said the holiday cards, called "Remembering the Joy of Paskong Pinoy," showcase Alcala's "Slice of Life" cartoons.

Slice of Life, considered as Alcala's most popular work, captures the "uniquely Pinoy moments." Scenes include homes being decorated with light-filled parols, as well as bibingka and puto bumbong stalls greeting Simbang Gabi attendees.

Filipinos may donate P1,000 to UNICEF Philippines here to avail of a Remembering the Joy of Paskong Pinoy box set. Deliveries have started this October.

“When you give the gift of a UNICEF Christmas card, you not only bring a smile to your family or friends," said Carli Snyman, UNICEF Philippines Chief of Fundraising. "[Y]ou also give the gift of health and well-being to children in the Philippines."

Alcala's granddaughter Ana said she's "so happy" that a new generation of children will not only enjoy her lolo's work but also benefit from the proceeds of the fundraising.

The organization said the 2021 edition of its Christmas cards, which featured the works of Robert Alejandro, raised P8.4 million for children in need, including those who were affected by Typhoon Odette.
