First look at 'Percy Jackson' series reboot on Disney+
Best-selling author Rick Riordan has shared a short teaser on the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series reboot heading to Disney Plus.
Riordan gave fans a sneak peek on his TikTok account, captioning the video, "A super short teaser that will appear today at the Disney shareholders meeting. Still a long way to go but I am so excited! #percyjackson #disneyplus"
The snippet of the title card and logo reveal was also reposted by Disney Plus on Twitter Friday (Dec. 11).

The TV series is based on Riordan's pentalogy of fantasy adventure novels published from 2005 to 2009, which follows the titular demigod hero in a world where Greek gods, heroes, and monsters exist in the real world.
The first season of the show is set to be based on The Lightning Thief, which will follow Percy as he learns that he is the son of Poseidon and his first encounter with Camp Half-Blood. The other four books in the series are The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, and The Last Olympian.
As reported by Polygon, the idea for a Disney-helmed Percy Jackson series has been been in the works since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Fox previously produced two feature film adaptations of the novels, namely Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010) and Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013) which starred Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Pierce Brosnan and more.
Riordan has previously spoken about his dislike of the movie versions, particularly how they aged up the characters and how the films deviated from his original stories.
When Disney Plus launched, fans took to Twitter with the hashtag #DisneyPlusAdaptPercyJackson and a petition showing fan interest. It's good to know that Riordan has now been involved in every aspect of the Disney Plus series.
While specific production details of the show are still up in the air, back in July, Becky and Rick Riordan provided an update on the series in response to a fan question, as reported by CBR.com.
Becky Riordan tweeted, "Any news to share? A couple of studio meetings this week. Getting close to wrapping up the pilot outline. A script outline isn't the same as an outline for a term paper but is more a script without dialog if that makes sense. We are having a blast! We love our team! More soon."
Rick Riordan also responded, "So it takes me 6-12 months just to write a novel all by myself. Making a TV show is infinitely more complicated, especially w/ unknown factors like the pandemic in play. We are still in the earliest stages of writing, which will take months. Most optimistic guess 2 years? Maybe?"
No official release date has been announced for the Percy Jackson Disney Plus TV series, but each season will cover one of the five books.
