BTS on collaborating with Ed Sheeran for ‘Permission to Dance’: ‘We hope we have more chances to work with him’

K-pop superstars BTS and Ed Sheeran might be a thousand miles apart (for now), but it doesn’t stop them from making beautiful music together.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, BTS admitted they “immediately wanted to record” Permission to Dance as soon as they received the demo from Ed Sheeran.

“Ed sent us this amazingly good song, and as soon as we listened to it we just couldn’t resist it. We thought it really went well with our image too, so we just went with it,” J-Hope said.

Permission to Dance is an upbeat track that Sheeran co-wrote with record producer Steve Mac and singer-songwriter Johnny McDaid. 

According to BTS, the original version of Permission to Dance was sung by Sheeran. V admitted that he would “listen to [the song] every day” if the English singer-songwriter would accompany them on the track. 

Jungkook also revealed that the group is looking forward to “more chances to work" with the English singer-songwriter.

Permission to Dance is the boy group’s third full English song after their chart-topping hits Butter and Dynamite. The track is included in “Butter: CD Version” which was released on July 9. 

Sheeran previously worked with BTS for the track Make It Right which was included in their 2019 album "Map of the Soul: Persona."
