Instagram now lets you reorder photos, videos in a carousel after posting

Published Mar 25, 2026 11:24 am

Instagram is finally letting you change the order of your photo carousel—even after publishing.

The photo-sharing platform rolled out new features in its March update, which also include changing the way you view Instagram reels.

To help you navigate the popular Meta app better, PhilSTAR L!fe has rounded up some of the updates you need to know about.

Carousel reordering

On March 24, Instagram announced on its Creators page that the content of carousel posts can now be reordered after publishing. There's no longer a need to delete or reupload when there's a mistake with the order of pictures or videos in posts.

To do this, tap on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of your carousel post. Then select edit and simply long-press and drag the content you want to move, and put it in the order you want it to appear. You can not, however, add new media to the mix.

Instagram said it added the feature to give users flexibility and control over their carousel posts, so they won't lose engagement to their already published content.

Tap-to-pause on Reels

No need to hold your screen to pause an Instagram Reel anymore, as you can now tap to freeze videos in your feed. Previously, tapping on the screen just muted the audio on the video, and to pause, you needed to tap and hold. This feature now makes videos easier to navigate on the platform.

Video, sound effects, and other features on Instagram Edits

On March 20, the platform announced that Instagram Edits is getting new features, including new cinematic effects, a sharper in-app camera, masks, and keyframe animations on video tracks, and new sound effects.

Other updates you need to know

In late February, Instagram allowed its users to have zoomed-in thumbnails to bring a fresh new look to feeds.

Professional features are also made available for public IG accounts, like the insights dashboard, trending audio, and scheduling posts.
