‘I can’t wait to visit!’: Chris Evans says he has heard nothing but amazing things about PH

American actor Chris Evans, best known for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, says he can’t wait to visit the Philippines. This is after he was tapped by telecom firm Smart Communications as the face of its “Live Smarter for a Better World” campaign.

During an online press conference for Smart on Monday, March 8, the Avengers: Endgame actor said to his Filipino fans about his campaign with the telco via a pre-recorded video: “I would say that I can’t wait to get out there. I can’t wait to visit.

“I have heard nothing but amazing things and this partnership only makes me more excited to come and say hi.”

Chris also said: “I’ve heard great things. Great beaches! I’ve heard that today, actually. I heard great food. Wonderful people.”

“I mean every time I am in any sort of Asian territory it’s always hard to leave because it is incredibly welcoming and aesthetically beautiful so I am eager to visit,” he added.

Chris, whose campaign with the telco was released last week, said he wants to inspire people to “read more” and “slow down” in order to “live smarter,” the slogan of his campaign for the telco.

“I think that it’s easy for us to think that all the issues we’re going through as a country and as a world really is somehow unique to this moment when the truth is when you read history you realize that a lot of these things tend to repeat.”

“And you can get a lot of information to address not just what’s going on but it also opens up your understanding and compassion.”

He added, “I think the ability to kind of slow down and take time with the little things whether it is brushing your teeth or cooking breakfast …  Just remember to be in yourself and be still every now and then. I think slowing down and being still will pay back in enormous ways.”

Al Panlilio, Smart’s President and CEO, said Chris has an open invitation to visit the Philippines. “Hopefully when travel restrictions are lifted and it’s for him to travel, we’d love for him to come to the country and visit us,” he said.

Meanwhile, Smart First Vice President and Head of Corporate Brand Lloyd Manaloto said they tapped Chris—a departure from the Asian celebrities they have gotten as endorsers recently—to “celebrate the idea that all content is actually global.”

“It also changes our perspective in the way that we look into ourselves. It’s not just telco. It’s also a content distribution company,” Manaloto said.

“What we did is we’ve been getting these foreign endorsers to speak that line in Filipino. And that’s a very powerful idea because it elevates a Filipino brand into world-class status.”
