Images from 'Hawkeye' set with Jeremy Renner confirm Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop

Marvel has a bunch of live-action series in the works for Disney Plus, with WandaVision expected to drop next month while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki expected to premiere early 2021.

Hawkeye, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, is another upcoming MCU series in development, with principal filming beginning in early December in New York City. The series is said to take place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame.

Alongside Jeremy Renner, who reprises his role from the MCU films to play the main character Clint Barton, Bumblebee star Hailee Steinfeld was widely rumored to be playing Kate Bishop, a young hero who undergoes training under Barton and eventually takes the Hawkeye mantle.

While Disney hasn't officially commented on the casting news, various on-set photos that have been circulating online show Steinfeld in costume as Kate Bishop alongside Renner.

In the Marvel comics, Kate Bishop is a young woman who is trained in archery, fencing, and martial arts by Barton and who eventually takes on the Hawkeye name and persona. Bishop is a member of the Young Avengers team, a group of adolescent characters who typically have connections to established members of Marvel's primary Avengers team.

Aside from Bumblebee, Steinfield's other film credits include the drama western film True Grit (2010) which earned her an Oscar nomination, Ender's Game (2013), and the highly popular Pitch Perfect film series (2015–2017). Steinfield also voiced Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman in the animated superhero film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

'Unofficially' confirming the news, Renner posted an image of him with Steinfield Friday (Dec. 4) on Instagram and Twitter along with a dog, captioned: "SQUIRREL!!! Nearly fell over this amazing dog today, and most certainly fell for her today."

Fans were quick to identify the dog as Lucky the Pizza Dog, a golden retriever originally named Arrow, but who Clint renames. An issue devoted entirely to Lucky's point of view reveals that he calls himself Pizza Dog, because of his love of a New York slice. In the comics, Lucky came to live with Clint and became a friend and companion to him and to the younger Hawkeye, Kate Bishop.

In related casting news, Variety reported six other cast members joining the series include Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring) as Eleanor Bishop, Kate Bishop's mother; Florence Pugh (Little Women), as spy and assassin Yelena Belova, the sister of Black Widow; Fra Fee (Les Misérables) as Kazi, short for Kazimierz Kazimierczak, known to Marvel fans as the mercenary villain Clown; along with Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon.

Hawekeye is one of several six-to-eight episode Marvel shows hailing from Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios set up at Disney Plus. WandaVision is set to premiere on Jan. 15 on the streamer, while The Falcon and Winter Soldier, Loki and Hawkeye are all slated on Disney's deck for release later in 2021.
