Netflix is adapting Keanu Reeves' 'BRZRKR' into film, anime series
Keanu Reeves' comic book series BRZRKR is being adapted into a live-action feature film as well as an anime spinoff series at Netflix.
The streaming giant announced on Tuesday that it has acquired the rights to the 12-issue limited series from BOOM! Studios, with Reeves set to star in and produce both Netflix's screen adaptations.
Reeves' BRZRKR is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages. The comic book series follows the story of a man known only as “B," who is half-mortal and half-god. After wandering the earth for centuries, B eventually ends up working for the US government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires—the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence—and how to end it.
Aside from the feature film, Reeves will also reprise his role and voice his character in the anime spinoff series, which will further expand the BRZRKR universe by exploring different elements of the story.
Reeves is producing both projects with Ross Richie, Stephen Christy, and Stephen Hamel while BOOM! Studios' Adam Yoelin will serve as executive producer.
The actor behind the John Wick and Matrix trilogies created and co-wrote BRZRKR with New York Times bestselling writer Matt Kindt (Justice League of America). The comic book series is illustrated by famed Marvel artist Ron Garney, with colors by Bill Crabtree, letters by Clem Robins, and character designs and covers by Rafael Grampá.
Reeves recently completed production on Matrix 4, which will be released later this year. The actor will begin production on the fourth John Wick film this spring.
First released on March 3, the inaugural issue of Reeves' comic book series has already sold over 615,000 copies, making it the highest-selling launch in almost thirty years.
A release date for BRZRKR has yet to be announced.
