Gmail to offer emoji reactions to emails—reports

Gmail will reportedly give users an option to send emojis via email soon.

Several tech sites, including The Verge, Gadget Match, and 9to5Google, reported that emoji reactions on Google's free email service are in the works. Rumors about the update began in August after "some code was discovered in the iOS Gmail app" that was the same with emoji implementations on other sites like Outlook.

According to The Verge, the latest Gmail APK for Android backed the speculations, saying that it was made with "several lines of code" that "directly refer" to the emoticons. The code stated it will go live "soon" for a limited time before it becomes officially available to all.

Gmail users will reportedly get access to the emojis via the email screen or a three-dot overflow menu. It will also come with limitations, allowing a maximum of 20 emoji reactions for one email.

While Google has yet to confirm nor deny the rumors, Google spokesperson Madison Cushman Veld asked the tech website to "stay tuned" when asked for a comment. She also included emojis in her brief response, The Verge said.
