The K-pop girl group has become the most streamed female band on Spotify, according to the Guinness World Records (GWR), garnering a total of 8,880,030,049 individual streams on the music streaming platform and counting.

According to a report by Billboard, the quartet has been collecting “history-making firsts” in their career. After becoming the first K-pop group to ever perform at the popular music festival Coachella in 2019, they are set to come back as headliners again at the annual affair on April 15 and 22. This would make them “the first Asian act to do so.”

BLACKPINK member Jennie previously described their success so far as “surprising” and said that it was because of the unconditional love and support they have been getting from their fans—also known as BLINKs. “Every day, we try to acknowledge how grateful we are, but more than the pressure, we are ready to give them back as much as they gave us. It just gives us more motivation to go further than we ever dreamed of,” she told in an interview.

BLACKPINK, consisting of Rosé, Jennie, Lisa and Jisoo, debuted in 2016 under YG Entertainment. They’re best known for their hit songs How You Like That (746,198,263 streams), Kill This Love (672,084,360 streams), and DDU-DU DDU-DU (574,613,362 streams).

“As a band, BLACKPINK still holds multiple records including for the most subscribers for a band on YouTube as well as becoming the first K-pop group to reach No.1 on the UK albums chart (female) and the first K-pop group to reach No.1 on the US albums chart (female),” according to the GWR.

On top of their success as a group, the members are also shining on their own in their individual careers. Jennie made her solo debut with a single dubbed Solo in November 2018, while Lisa and Rosé released their solo music in 2021 with LALISA and On the Ground, respectively. Jisoo is set to make her solo debut on March 31.
