Looks like fans would have to wait a bit more until vampiric anti-hero Morbius hits the big screen.

Sony Pictures has decided to postpone the theatrical release of Morbius according to reports from Hollywood showbiz website Variety.

The movie, which has been scheduled to premiere on Mar. 19, will further slide to Oct. 8. The delayed release date puts the vampire horror-themed film closer to the Halloween season.

Morbius follows the story of Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who tried to cure his rare blood disease only to become afflicted with a form of vampirism that gave him superior strength, fangs, and an insatiable taste for blood.

Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa, while the script is written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The film stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.

Here’s a brief synopsis:

One of Marvel's most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen, the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.

The film is the on-screen adaption of Morbius the Living Vampire who first appeared in 1971’s Amazing Spider-Man #101. Created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane, Morbius clashed with Spider-Man several times in the comics, before starring in his own comic book series as a Marvel anti-hero.
