'The Legend of Zelda' to get live-action movie adaptation

Published Nov 08, 2023 8:46 am

Gaming company Nintendo announced that its popular franchise The Legend of Zelda is getting a live-action movie adaptation.

Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo’s video game designer, through its X (Twitter) account, said they’ve been working on the project “for many years” with Avi Arad, who has worked on "many hit movies.”

“I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production,” Miyamoto said. “It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”

Arad is the former head of Marvel Studios. He produced the X-Men original trilogy, Daredevil, Hulk, Elektra, the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, Blade: Trinity, The Punisher, Ghost Rider, and the Tim Story Fantastic Four film series.

He has also produced Spider-Man films for Sony, including Venom, Into the Spider-Verse, and No Way Home.

The upcoming Zelda movie will be directed by Wes Ball of Maze Runner fame.

Jurassic World Derek Connolly will write the screenplay.

The plot and cast have yet to be announced.

The video game series follows the elf-like warrior Link, who’s out to defeat the evil Ganon and rescue Zelda, the princess of the kingdom of Hyrule.

The franchise’s latest installment, Tears of the Kingdom, was released last May.
