WATCH: Nintendo drops first look at Switch 2

Published Jan 16, 2025 10:14 pm

Nintendo has given a first look at its Switch 2 console.

The Japanese gaming company dropped a video of the upcoming device on its social media platforms on Jan. 16.

From the teaser, it looks like the console is getting a size upgrade and a sleeker all-black look.

The video showed the old Nintendo Switch transforming into its successor, which still features a USB port at the bottom, the same power and volume buttons, 3.5mm jack, and game card slot on top. One new addition is another USB-C port beside the audio jack.

The kickstand also got a makeover—it's now thinner than the one on the Nintendo Switch OLED and can bend almost all the way flat.

The biggest change comes with the Joy-Cons, which now come in all-black instead of the orange and blue hues in the first version of the Switch. However, there are still pops of color under the joystick and the rail slider. Each controller's corners are also more rounded, as well.

Additionally, players will no longer slide the Joy-Cons upwards to remove them from the console—they click in with a snap.

Other details such as pricing, new games, and availability have yet to be revealed.

Nintendo has previously said that the upcoming console will be backwards compatible.

The company is holding a Nintendo Direct on the Switch 2 on April 2. It also said that the console will be released this 2025.
