BDO 'encourages' ATM, bank visits on payday amid app problems
September 30, 2020 — a payday — was met with anything but smiles and excitement among BDO's online users, as they continue to experience errors on their mobile apps.
As of press time, the app remains inaccessible — sending users frustrated even after BDO's earlier advisory.
BDO Unibank Inc. posted around lunchtime on Facebook to explain its latest technical issues. The reason? "The bank has been experiencing ever-increasing volume usage in our digital channels and have taken steps to adjust. Today's volume has been substantially higher than the normal peak levels," it said.
"We apologize for the inaccessibility of our Digital Banking channels and the inconvenience it has caused, especially during this payday period," it added.
Instead of its mobile services for urgent transacrions, BDO is "encouraging" users to use its ATMs or visit its branches.
"All BDO branches are following safety measures and observing physical distancing. Please wear your face mask and face shield so we may serve you safely and efficiently," it stressed.

In response to BDO's post, Facebook user Veronica Ester Mendoza commented, "They should have seen this coming, the "substantially higher than the normal peak" because of their intention to start charging for fund transfers. This won't happen if they'll just continue to do charge-free transactions. Don't find ways to earn using our money but find ways to serve your customers!"
Vive De Guzman added, "Even crediting to payroll account is affected by this bs system maintenance! You are causing delayed payments of employees salaries!"
Katt Pasky also said, "You should have created a contingency plan a long time ago. And is that right that you actually encourage physical bank/atm visits while a pandemic rages on?"
The same post brimmed with sarcastic remarks from seemingly frustrated clients.
"BDO be like: we're very sorry pero pwede lumabas na lang kayo ng bahay at pumunta sa bangko saka take note po - 5 oras po kayo sa pila WAHAHAHA," Raynand Olarte commented.
"The reason I got a BDO acct is for convenience banking.. But this is the irony of it," Cris Alvin De Guzman added.
BDO's technical issues started last week, following Apple's iOS 14 update that has introduced home widgets and addressed bugs. The bank released an advisory about fixing its compatibility only to be uneventful in the next days.
Experts earlier warned iPhone users about updating to iOS 14 immediately, as the American tech brand only left developers a day's notice about its latest software update. It should have followed a full week timeframe as in previous updates, experts reiterated.
