‘When Harry Met Sally’ stars Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal tease reunion: ‘It’s finally happening’
When Harry Met Sally stars Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are finally reuniting for “something iconic,” 35 years since the release of the hit rom-com film.
The two announced their upcoming reunion on Thursday, Jan. 23, posting a teaser photo of them sitting next to each other, resembling the look of the final scene of their 1989 movie.
“It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic. Can’t wait to show you all soon,” Meg captioned the post.
Fans of the movie expressed their excitement in the post’s comments section, with some hoping for a sequel and others guessing that it could be for a Super Bowl ad.
Meg and Billy last reunited in 2019 during the 10th Turner Classic Movies Festival.
In 2023, Billy talked about the film’s impact and his chemistry with his co-star.
“We were thrown together by [director Rob Reiner and screenwriter Nora Ephron], chosen to be this couple and you never know—almost 35 years later, we’re still a couple to everybody," Billy told PEOPLE Magazine.
"As you get further along and new generations see this movie and feel it and watch it over and over again on Valentine’s Day, on New Year’s Eve, whatever it is," he added.
"You know, people fall in love every day, and people fall out of love every day. This movie is an evergreen that way. It’s a beautiful thing."
When Harry Met Sally tells the story of college graduates, Harry and Sally, who share a car ride bound for New York City. During their travel, they debated whether sex could ruin the possibility of a platonic relationship between a man and a woman. Since that ride, the two often found themselves in chance encounters, finding the answer whether they can stay friends or deny their attraction to each other.
The two earned recognition for their roles in the rom-com classic, with Meg bagging a Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture nomination for her role as Sally Albright, and Billy clinching a Best Performance by an Actor nod for his role as Harry Burns.
