Will Apple launch a folding phone soon?

The Apple event is one of the most anticipated events for tech geeks, and rumor has it the tech giant is planning to develop foldable gadgets in the next two years—a game changer for the brand.

According to a report by tech outlet 9to5mac, Jeff Pu, an analyst by Haitong International Securities says that the tech giant is set to begin its mass production of a foldable 20.3-inch hybrid gadget in late 2025.

This comes after tech experts, such as Ming Chi-Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that the tech giant was working on a 20.3-inch folding display MacBook, slated for a 2026 or 2027 release.

On the other hand, tech-business publication The Information reported that Apple is working on a folding tablet with an 8-inch screen size like the iPad Mini.

“The foldable tablet supposedly had less strict durability and thickness requirements, as it wouldn't need to fit in pockets like an iPhone Flip. Apple was still working on ways to reduce the crease in the middle of the folding display and get the iPad to lie fully flat,” it said.

Aside from the hybrid gadget, Apple is also rumored to produce its first-ever foldable iPhone slated for 2026 production. It is said to be exploring 7.9-inches and 8.3-inches sizes.

According to 9to5mac, Pu said that the company’s alleged upcoming foldable gadget series would target the “ultra-high-end market.”

There are no official announcements or teasers yet from the tech giant about its rumored offerings, but if this pushes through, Apple will join its competitors like Samsung, Motorola, Google, and OPPO in making folding phones.

As it does annually, Apple is expected to release its newest smartphones in late 2024.
