'The Conjuring' series, 'Big Bang Theory' spinoff, and 'Game of Thrones' prequel are coming to Max
Prepare for a longer list of must-watch series in the near future, folks. Warner Bros. Discovery has just announced that it is working on new shows that take off from three of today's popular franchises: The Conjuring, Big Bang Theory, and Game of Thrones.
The news comes a day after the entertainment company on April 12 unveiled a new streaming platform, called Max, which is a combination of HBO Max and Discovery+, set to be launched on May 23.
Among the list of shows and films viewers can look forward to in the new streaming app, is a series based on The Conjuring. The franchise currently spans eight films which grossed more than $2 billion (over P110 billion) globally.
The platform has yet to reveal further details about its plot, writer, and cast but it mentioned that the series will follow the story that was “established in the feature films.” Peter Safran is in talks to serve as the series’ executive producer along with James Wan, who directed the first two Conjuring films.
Other than this, another film under The Conjuring franchise, The Nun 2, is slated to be released on September 8.
Additionally, the second Big Bang Theory spinoff is also in line for future release. While the company has yet to reveal further details, the spinoff is believed to be “an hour-long series” with a new cast.
Big Bang Theory is a television sitcom that has 12 episodes which ran from 2007 to 2019. Following its success, it birthed its first spinoff, Young Sheldon, which premiered in 2017. It currently runs in its sixth season and is slated to have its seventh season. Starring Iain Armitage, it tells the story of the nine-year-old version of Jim Parsons’ character from the original series.
Meanwhile, there's also good news for Game of Thrones fans. Following the release of the House of the Dragon last year, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that it is working on another Game of Thrones prequel, dubbed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. It is set to be executive produced by George R. R. Martin, Ira Parker, Ryan Condal, and Vince Gerardis.

A short teaser was also released on HBO Max’s official Twitter account, sharing a glimpse of the plot that will revolve around the “unlikely heroes” Ser Duncan the Tall and his “diminutive squire,” called Egg, prior to the events of Game of Thrones.
"Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends," the synopsis reads.
According to an Entertainment Weekly report, the prequel is inspired by the fantasy novels Tales of Dunk and Egg written by George R.R. Martin.
