Your favorite girls are coming back!

HBO has officially greenlit the hit series Girls for a five-episode revival airing in 2027, a decade after it last premiered.

The news dropped in a video announcement featuring creator, writer, and star Lena Dunham on a video call alongside co-stars Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, and Jemima Kirke.

"We used to spend like every summer together, you know doing this thing that we do, making this show and is it something that you would want to do again?" Dunham asks her co-stars. "Are you free next summer?"

After everyone agrees, co-star Andrew Rannells joins the call to confirm he's on board too, joking that he's only doing it "’cause you trash cans need constant supervision."

In a press release, Dunham shared that they would only return to the show if "there was a specific story we were burning to tell."

“I’ve missed these characters, but for a long time I couldn’t quite picture them in the present day,” Dunham said. “Then, right around my fortieth birthday, they started talking to me in the shower. And, as you may remember, once this fivesome starts talking, it’s pretty hard to get them to stop."

“It’s rare that you get the chance to return to something that changed your life with the gift of hindsight and a whole new level of gratitude and understanding. I love these girls (and boy), our friends at HBO, and all the people who have continued to discover the show and remind us afresh why we do this, which is the joy of being together,” she continued.

Dunham will reprise her role as Hannah, while Williams returns as Marnie, Kirke as Jessa, Mamet as Shoshanna and Rannells as Elijah. There's no news whether Adam Driver, who played Hannah's boyfriend in the series Adam Sackler, will return.

Production will begin in 2027.

Girls first premiered in 2012 and ran for six seasons through 2017, following four young women navigating careers, relationships, and the realities of their twenties in New York City.

Over its run, the critically acclaimed series earned two Emmy Awards alongside 17 nominations—including twice for Best Comedy Series. Girls and Dunham also scored Golden Globe wins for their breakout first season, as well as honors from both the Writers Guild and Directors Guild.
