Camille Razat leaves 'Emily in Paris' season 5
Camille Razat is bidding adieu to her character in Emily in Paris... for now.
Variety reported that the 31-year-old French actress will not be returning for the Netflix series' fifth season.
This news follows a previous hint at her departure from show creator Darren Star.
“I think she’s always going to be part of the series—she’s part of their world and I would never rule out the fact that we’re going to see her again. Her story is going to continue,” he told The Wrap. “Characters can come in and out of a series, but you don’t necessarily have to see them. We may or may not. I don’t know how much of Camille we’ll see next season. But again, she’s part of the world of the series. I’m not sure how soon we’ll see her, but it doesn’t mean, again, that we won’t be seeing her.”
Razat, who portrayed Camille, Emily's stylish frenemy and romantic rival, said she is trying to avoid being typecast.
“I want to do different things. I have no interest in playing that role over and over,” she told South China Morning Post. “I keep saying no to a lot of things because I don’t want to be the French fashionista forever. I love fashion and I’m very passionate about it—that’s why I work with Roger Vivier—but I’m an actress.”
Meanwhile, production for Emily in Paris season 5 will begin in May, with filming partly taking place in Rome.
Lily Collins will reprise her lead role as Emily, and she will be joined by returning cast members including Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as her boss, Sylvie Grateau, Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), and Ashley Park as Emily's best friend, Mindy Chen.
The series will also see the return of Emily's on-again, off-again love interests: Lucas Bravo as the French chef, Gabriel; Lucien Laviscount as Alfie; and Eugenio Franceschini as her new Italian lover, Marcello.
Emily in Paris is executive produced by Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Andrew Fleming, Stephen Brown, Alison Brown, Robin Schiff, Grant Sloss and Joe Murphy. It’s produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Darren Star Productions, and Jax Media.
