'Emily in Paris' star Lucas Bravo says he's feeling finished with the show—here's why
Is Gabriel bidding Paris goodbye?
Lucas Bravo, who stars in the hit romantic-comedy Netflix series Emily in Paris as French chef Gabriel, said he's "feeling finished" with the show as it does not "stimulate" him as an actor.
His character is the next-door neighbor and love interest of Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins,
"Life is short. It takes five months to shoot this series. Do I want to sacrifice them by telling something that does not stimulate me?" he said in an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro.
Bravo went on stating the romance between his character and Emily was a bit "archaic." He also said that he wanted Gabriel to have a sense of explicit self-confidence again.
"I would like him to find a bit of panache again. In the last season, the writing was in this idea of the 90s where lovers move away, kiss, move away again... Everything is based on the lack of communication. It's a bit archaic. Today, the new generation verbalizes, confronts each other, it doesn't work anymore this side we cross paths and we don't understand each other. People see this mechanism coming from miles away," he underscored.
Bravo added, "I don't want to be part of a cog that tends not to consider the intelligence of the spectators."
Nonetheless, the 36-year-old French actor said that the series has helped him grow his career.
"Emily in Paris brought me a snowball effect that allowed me to meet certain people, to try to set up something lasting. It's good entertainment, an escape."
When asked if he would reprise his role in season five, he said, "It will depend on the script because I think I've covered everything a bit. I don't really have any freedom, and, as I'm starting to be given some elsewhere, I'm getting a taste for it."
On Sept. 16, Netflix shared a video announcement by Collins that the show has been renewed for season five, which is expected to air in mid to late 2025.
"There's no place like Rome," she says, before taking a sip of coffee and showing the number five at the bottom of the cup.
The series released its fourth installment, which premiered on Aug. 15. It showed Emily's sparking romance with an Italian fashion scion.
The latest season explored the conflicting romantic life of Emily between Gabriel and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount). In the latter part of the show, Emily travels to Rome to spend time with her new love interest, Marcello Muratori (Eugenio Franceschini), a handsome Italian man she met over the Christmas holiday.
"Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance," Collins said during her appearance in Good Morning America on Sept. 16. "We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time."
The series is created by Darren Star. Other cast members include Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Camille Razat (Camille), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), and William Abadie (Antoine Lambert).
