Flappy Bird to make comeback 10 years after shutdown
Miss playing Flappy Bird? Here's some good news: The popular game is officially coming back after 10 years—this time with more characters and game modes to choose from.
The gaming app announced its much-awaited revival on X late Thursday, Sept. 12, saying that the iconic bird is now "refreshed, reinvigorated, and ready to soar again."

Just a decade ago, I was the talk of the town and soaring to new heights with my 100 million friends. Sadly, I had to leave the fame and spotlight behind to go home and find out who I really am.

The new version will also debut new characters, namely Peng (Penguin), Quirky (Unicorn), Tekno (Robot Bird), and Trixy (Bird). Making it more exciting are new game modes that will allow you to compete with other players.
The game will be available to web browsers by the end of October. Its iOS and Android versions are slated for release in 2025.
This comes a decade after its original creator, Dong Nguyen, announced that he would be shutting down the game in February 2014.
“I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now, I will take 'Flappy Bird' down. I cannot take this anymore,” he previously posted on X. “It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore.”
In a previous interview with Forbes, Nguyen said that he decided to take it down due to “guilt” as the game was getting “addictive” for its users.
Fans of the original game dubbed The Flappy Bird Foundation has acquired legal rights from Gametech Holdings LLC, a U.S. company that fought for the game’s rights from Nguyen, according to an IGN report. The foundation now also owns the rights to the mobile game, Piou Piou vs. Cactus, which inspired the popular bird character.
