Po Ping is back after seven years!
Everyone's favorite Chinese panda is back on screen as Kung Fu Panda released the official trailer for its fourth installment on Thursday, Dec. 14.
In the teaser, Po embarks on a risky yet nostalgic adventure. He tries to follow Master Shifu's advice and keep his focus, but he finds that meditation is not for him as playful ideas start to cross his mind.
The trailer continues with an exciting sight of Tai Lung, the ferocious kung fu master in the Leopard school, making a dramatic return. Several additional characters, including Tigress, Monkey, Mantis, Viper, Crane, and others, are also introduced in the video.
The Valley of Peace selects Po as its spiritual leader, but he needs to resolve the conflict on the horizon. He then teams up with a wanted criminal, the cunning and quick-witted thief Zhen, to fight the new enemy called Chameleon, a spirit-shifting sorcerer.
The latest installment in the hit film franchise features Golden Globe nominee Jack Black who is set to reprise his role as the voice of Po Ping after seven years. Oscar winners Viola Davis and Ke Huy Quan are joining the cast as the Chameleon, the antagonist, and Han, the leader of the Den of Thieves, respectively. American actress and rapper Awkafina, meanwhile, will voice the fox named Zhen.
Other A-list cast members include Ian McShane as Tai Lung, Bryan Cranston as Li Shan, James Hong as Mr. Ping, Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu, Angelina Jolie as Master Tigress, Jackie Chan as Master Monkey, and Seth Rogen as Master Mantis.
The Kung Fu Panda franchise was launched in 2008. It became DreamWorks' highest-grossing original animated film. The latest release was in 2016.
The first Kung Fu Panda film started the trilogy that has amassed over $1.8 billion or more than P100 billion in worldwide box office revenue. The franchise includes various consumer product programs, video games, an Emmy Award-winning television series, and international theme parks.
The Dragon Knight, the franchise's third animated series, debuted on Netflix in 2022.
Kung Fu Panda 4 will be released in theaters on March 8, 2024.
