Filipino horror films offer a unique viewing experience compared to the usual Western horror movies. Drawing from the country's rich folklore, superstitions and urban legends, local horror films will surely give you reasons to stop going to restrooms alone and trigger those inner fears you try to keep at the back of your head.

Looking for something to add to your watchlist for your next movie date night?

Grab your blankets and keep your loved ones close with these classic Filipino horror films you can watch for free on YouTube and select streaming sites.

Shake, Rattle and Roll film series  (1984 - 2014)

When it comes to local horror films, the Shake, Rattle and Roll film series immediately comes to mind for its horrifying and memorable stories.

The horror anthology film series is typically divided into three segments or self-contained episodes dealing with a wide variety of topics from supernatural beings, superstitions, urban legends, cults and demonic possessions, and much more.

The longest-running film series produced by Regal Entertainment spans 15 films dating from 1984 to 2014, with notable directors including Peque Gallaga, Lore Reyes, Ishmael Bernal, Don Escudero, Jose Javier Reyes, Anton Juan, Chito Roño, and Jerrold Tarog, among the notable directors at the helm of stories. Except for its sixth installment, SRR movies have been official entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

One of the memorable episodes in SRR is the 2006 roll installment, LRT, directed by Mike Tuviera. The frightening scenarios inside the LRT station made commuting late at night much scarier. The film tells the story of a violent alien-esque half-man-half-monster that ripped the hearts out of LRT passengers and how a corrupt and abusive governing body contributed to it. This story effectively scares its viewers as it leaves a scar on how commuting in the country brought horror not just from the movie itself but as well in reality.

Just in time for Halloween, all 15 entries in the Shake, Rattle and Roll film series are back on Regal Entertainment's YouTube channel. The full playlist of movies and episodes can be accessed here.
