Mecha franchise Transformers, in celebration of its 40th anniversary, is launching a limited edition comic book featuring the Philippines' iconic jeepney.

For Transformers #1 40th Anniversary Edition, the cover art depicts Optimus Prime and Hound in the process of transforming. Optimus Prime can be seen converting into his iconic red truck form. Hound, meanwhile, transforms into a green Pinoy jeepney—complete with chrome stallions as hood ornaments, a prominent Manila label, and route signages for Cubao and Welcome Rotonda.

Von Randal did the illustration, while Ellery Santos and Rex Espino did the colors.

The comic is the first-ever Philippine exclusive comic in the franchise's history. It will only have 1,000 copies and will released at this year's SuperManila Comic Con, which will run from Sept. 7 to 8.

Launched in 2019, SuperManila Comic Con is the country's premier pop culture event celebrating Filipino creativity across entertainment and pop culture. The event is expected to have interactive exhibits, thrilling activities, and exclusive merchandise.

The Transformers franchise comprises toys, animation, comic books, video games, and films.
