Celebrate the power of women-led stories with these handy Netflix categories

By Kara Santos Published Mar 15, 2022 4:30 pm

Looking for empowering shows and movies to watch featuring women in front and behind the camera this Women’s Month?

In case you missed it, Netflix recently honored International Women’s Day 2022, by promoting a category hub called “The Story of She” that contains new genre codes to help subscribers find Netflix movies and shows starring and directed by women.

Netflix currently has thousands of category codes that help group content together which, in turn, allows you to filter what you want to watch. New category codes are set up for annual events like Christmas, Halloween or special events such as the 2022 Oscar nominations list.

"The Story of She," which was launched last March 8 for International Women’s Day and will run through March 31, compiles collections that celebrate the many facets of female strengths and talents.

To celebrate the new categories, Netflix uploaded some new artwork created by Indian graphic designer and illustrator Twisha Patni for the special category and a special sizzle trailer.

Users can easily browse through themes like "Women Making History," "Kickass Women," "Women Who Make Us Laugh" and "Movies Directed by Women," among others.

According to Jinny Howe, Drama Executive for Netflix, there’s no “one-size-fits-all approach to women-led stories at Netflix.

“Whether you’re in the mood for an empowering drama, a thought-provoking documentary or just a good laugh, we want to have something for you,” Howe said in an official release

“The series, films and specials highlighted represent the work we do year-round to find, develop and share a wide range of stories about women and by women with the world. And there are so many that have yet to be told,” she added.
