‘KPop Demon Hunters’ sequel set for 2029 release—report

Netflix’s most-watched original film of all time KPop Demon Hunters is getting a sequel.

Now, Netflix and Sony have reportedly finalized a deal to bring back girl group Huntrix for another high-energy adventure.

Bloomberg, which first reported the news, said that the sequel is slated for release in 2029. As an animated feature, production is expected to take several years, though this timeline could still shift.

Sony and Netflix declined to comment on the report.

Since its debut in June, KPop Demon Hunters has racked up over 330 million views in its 91-day run.

The film follows Huntrix, or HUNTR/X, a K-pop girl group leading a double life, balancing their idol careers with the secret duty of defending humanity from supernatural forces.

KPop Demon Hunters even made waves on the music charts, with the fictional group's Golden holding the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight nonconsecutive weeks.

The craze extended beyond streaming and soundtracks. Last Halloween, fans of all ages dressed up as members of HUNTR/X, especially the ever-iconic Rumi, known for her purple braids and dazzling idol outfit. Meanwhile, Soda Pop by the Saja Boys sparked a viral dance challenge on TikTok.

With such a massive cultural impact, it’s no surprise that audiences have been wanting more. Co-director Maggie Kang previously hinted at a potential follow-up.

“We’ve set up so much for potential backstory. Obviously, there [are] a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored. We had to do that because there’s only so much movie you could tell in 85 minutes.” Kang told Variety in July.

KPop Demon Hunters stars Arden Cho, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Lee Byung-hun, and more.
