WATCH: ‘Hunger Games’ prequel ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ gets a first trailer

The trailer for the highly anticipated Hunger Games prequel movie, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, has arrived.

On April 28, Lionsgate has released the trailer, which takes place 64 years before the games were formed.

The action-sci-fi film will tell the story of the beginning of the dystopian event, following the young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), the future tyrannical President of Panem, as he mentors Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), an “impoverished tribute” from District 12 for the 10th Hunger Games.

“As a mentor, your job is to turn these people into spectacles, not survivors,” said Casca Highbottom, the creator of The Hunger Games.

In case you’re not familiar, The Hunger Games is a televised event where chosen teenagers, who are called “tributes” compete against each other to death. Only one survivor will remain and will enjoy the perks of special status and wealth with their families.

In the trailer, Lucy Gray was seen singing during the reaping ceremony, enabling her to get the attention that made Snow believe that they might be able to win the games.

“Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake,” the log line reads.

The film is directed by Francis Lawrence, who previously directed the movie franchise, while Michael Lesslie wrote the screenplay.

It stars Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray and Tom Blyth, who will portray the young Coriolanus Snow.

Big names in the industry will also take part in the film, such as Viola Davis as Dra. Volumnia Gaul, the head game maker of the 10th Hunger Games; and Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom, the creator of Hunger Games.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will premiere in theaters on Nov. 17. Watch the trailer below.
