The Emmy-winning science fiction anthology series Black Mirror has released the official teaser for its sixth season, set for a June release.

The star-studded cast of Season 6 includes Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Auden Thornton, Ben Barnes, Clara Rugaard, Daniel Portman, Danny Ramirez, David Shields, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney, Rory Culkin, Salma Hayek Pinault, Samuel Blenkin, and Zazie Beetz.

Although not much is known about the upcoming season yet, Netflix said that fans should "expect the unexpected."

"The long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker’s dark, satirical anthology series which reinvents itself with each new episode. The sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable, and unexpected yet," the streaming platform said in a press release.

Executive producer-writer Charlie Brooker told Netflix's official companion site Tudum that he managed to surprise even himself.

“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people—and myself—or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself,” the show's creator said.

He challenged himself by "deliberately upending" his own core assumptions about what he expected will happen in each story.

“Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes, we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is. The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through—but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before," Brooker explained.

Black Mirror is a sci-fi anthology series that "explores a twisted, high-tech near-future where humanity's greatest innovations and darkest instincts collide." It won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie for three consecutive years. San Junipero, USS Calister, and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch received the said accolade between 2017 and 2019.

The most recent Season 5 was released in June 2019 with only three episodes. Before that, Season 3 and Season 4 (each with six episodes) were released back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.
