WATCH: The first trailer for Netflix docuseries on Elisa Lam’s death is here
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its true crime documentary series on Elisa Lam’s mysterious death.
Directed by Joe Berlinger, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel will arrive on the streaming site on Feb. 10. In this fascinating docuseries, Berlinger—who also worked on Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes—looked into a myriad of theories about the 21-year-old student's disappearance as well as the dark history of The Cecil Hotel, which some people call “The Hotel Death.”
Daily Mail described the infamous establishment as "the site of multiple murders, mysterious deaths, and not one, but two serial killer guests." Since it opened in 1927, according to the report, at least 16 deaths have occured in the facility.
Lam’s death grabbed headlines and newscasts in 2013, as she was found lifeless in the water tank of the hotel on Feb. 19 after its residents complained of having dirty water and low water pressure. A viral security camera footage showed her odd behavior in an elevator, where she was seen pressing all the buttons and stepping in and out of the door.
While medical examiners declared she “was a victim of an accidental drowning,” CNN International reported, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Rudy Lopez said some detectives still found it quite suspicious, “since falling into a covered water tank behind a locked door on top of a roof would be an unusual accident.”
