‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Better Call Saul’ creator renews contract with Sony
Vince Gilligan, the creator and writer of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, extended his partnership with Sony Pictures Television through a new four-year eight-digit deal.
Gilligan is reportedly already working on new content for the television production and distribution studio as Better Call Saul wraps up its sixth and final season in 2022 as part of the deal.
"It was a no-brainer: Sony is very generous to me, they've been a great place to work and I like everybody there, from Tony Vinciquerra, Jeff Frost, and Jason Clodfelter on down. Also, having put in fifteen years already, I'm only a decade shy of receiving a gold Walkman," said Gilligan.
Better Call Saul started production earlier this year and will continue the story of Jimmy McGill or better known as Saul Goodman after he decides to finally do things his own way during the end of the fifth season.
“Our relationship with Vince is extraordinarily rare in this business,” said Jeff Frost, President of SPT Studios with Jason Clodfelter, Co-President of SPT Studios.
“He is an integral member of the Sony Pictures family, an inimitable creative genius in everything he does, and a remarkable friend. He has been instrumental in the success of Sony Pictures Television and words can’t express how elated we are that Vince will continue to create groundbreaking and momentous stories with us,” they added.
Better Call Saul’s sixth season is expected to premiere in 2022 with 13 episodes.
