Nadine Lustre is willing to take on 'T-Bird At Ako' remake: 'I'm always game for challenges'
Multi-awarded star Nadine Lustre is game to take on the possible remake Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor's hit 1982 satirical black comedy Filipino film, T-Bird At Ako, but said that it might be a challenge.
Speaking to the media in an event last Friday, Jan. 12, the Deleter star noted that she is not yet ready to do a girl love (GL) film because of the intimacy level required in this kind of movie. However, if it is leaning towards a "good script," Lustre said she is open to exploring it.
"Nice, okay. Let's see. I don't know if I'm ready for a movie like that. Ako naman, I'm always leaning towards a good script. If it is always a good script, down naman ako to do it," she explained.
"I guess magiging challenging lang niyan for me is the level of comfortability, but ako naman, I'm always game for challenges, so tignan natin," she added.
The local actress also explained her initially perceived challenges in making this film's genre.
"It's very challenging because of all the movies, especially when you're uncomfortable with that kind of intimacy. Like kapag kahit kayo-kayo na nga lang medyo nakakailang, ‘cause I had an experience before na may ganyan, that’s why I know that I’m really straight kasi naka-experience ako ng ganyan," she expressed.
A match made in 'heaven'
Nadine's remarks came after the "Star for All Seasons" Vilma Santos said that the former and Kathryn Bernardo would make a good pair to star in a future remake. Back then, fans were buzzing at the chance for the two actresses to team up.
"Uy, heaven 'yan! Heaven 'yang team na 'yan! Parehong magaling 'yan!" Vilma said in an interview with ABS-CBN News after bagging the Best Actress award at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023.
In case you didn't know, T-Bird at Ako is a revolutionary film for its time, 1982, as it portrayed homosexual themes.
It follows the story of Sylvia, played by Nora Aunor, who finds herself attracted to Sabel, portrayed by Vilma Santos, after witnessing the latter's performance at a local bar. Sabel has been accused of homicide and was defended by feisty lawyer Sylvia. Amid this lawyer-client relationship, Sylvia tries to keep their relationship professional but starts to get feelings for Sabel.
It also stars Dindo Fernando, Tommy Abuel, and Suzanne Gonzales.
Lustre also expressed how flattered she was at Santos' compliment.
"For me, para lang marecognize ni Ate Vi as someone who’s very talented with regards to acting nakakatuwa na marinig, I don’t know, let’s see. Like, why not? I'm open to any projects naman," the local actress said.
The Deleter star has worked with the veteran actress in the past in an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, titled "Regalo," with Maja Salvador and Erich Gonzales.
"Actually, looking forward to working with her or just to see her again. Why not, I'm game! Super game ako. You know me, I'm always excited to work with new people," she said.
Nadine in a GL?
This isn't the first time Lustre's name came up when talking about GL content as Can't Buy Me Love actress Maris Racal said in an interview with Mega that she wanted to do a GL with her and Barbie Forteza.
"Sana may romcom na GL na darating!" Racal said. "Yung kawork ko, parang ‘di naman GL. I really want to work with Barbie Forteza and Nadine Lustre. Sa romcom film, baka si Joshua Garcia.
ICYMI, Maris also expressed her desire last year to work with Barbie as she responded to a tweet pairing her with the Maging Sino Ka Man actress, saying, "Sobrang game if ever."
As for the T-Bird at Ako remake, nothing is set in stone yet about whether or not an updated version will hit the screens.
