Listen up, Gleeks: The script for a 'Glee' reboot is done, says Ryan Murphy
Eleven years after Glee aired its last episode, series creator Ryan Murphy announced on Sept. 23 that he had just finished writing the script for a reboot of the popular musical-comedy show.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the rumors of a remake of the beloved TV series, Murphy said, "Well, funny you ask, 'cause I just finished the script an hour ago."
"So we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan], and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something," he added, as reported by Variety.
According to Murphy, he had already told some of the show's original cast members about this latest development.
"I've been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It's very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea," Murphy said.
Original cast members include Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele, Jane Lynch, Chris Colfer, Harry Shum Jr., Heather Morris, Dianna Agron, Darren Criss, Cory Monteith, who passed away in 2013, and Naya Rivera, who passed away in 2020.
Though he had told the cast about his script, Murphy said they haven't seen it yet.
"Nobody's read it," he said.
"I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, 'cause we were very close when we were making it," Murphy continued.
Murphy's news came a week after Michele, who played lead Rachel Berry, told E! News that she would welcome a Glee reboot.
"I love Glee. I will always love Glee. I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me...I will follow Ryan wherever he goes," Michele said.
Glee, which aired its premiere episode in September 2009, ran for six seasons until March 2015. It told the story of a group of high school kids and their experiences in their school's glee club, the New Directions.
