Space out this Christmas weekend with ‘Dune,’ ‘The Silent Sea,’ ‘Don’t Look Up’ and more

Denis Villaneuve‘s sci-fi epic Dune will finally begin streaming on HBO Go in the Philippines on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

Over on Netflix, subscribers can look forward to streaming The Silent Sea on Christmas Eve. The upcoming Netflix Original sci-fi K-Drama series directed by Choi Hang-yang stars Train to Busan’s Gong Yoo and Kingdom’s Bae Doo Na.

There’s also Don’t Look Up, a satirical science fiction comedy starring Academy Award winners Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio as two low-level astronomers who must go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth.

Here’s a roundup of the newest movies and series you can catch on the small and big screen this week from Dec. 20 to 26, 2021.

Gretel and Hansel

Synopsis: A long time ago in a fairy-tale countryside, a young girl and her little brother enter a dark wood in search of food and work, only to stumble upon terrifying evil.


The Silent Sea

Synopsis: During a perilous 24-hour mission on the moon, space explorers try to retrieve samples from an abandoned research facility steeped in classified secrets.

Don’t Look Up

Synopsis: Two astronomers go on a media tour to warn humankind of a planet-killing comet hurtling toward Earth. The response from a distracted world: Meh.

Emily in Paris (Season 2)

Synopsis: After landing her dream job in Paris, Chicago marketing exec Emily Cooper embraces her adventurous new life while juggling work, friends and romance.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Synopsis: A small-town sheriff helps an alien hedgehog with supersonic speed outrun a mad doctor who wants the creature's special powers to dominate the world.

Schitt’s Creek (Seasons 1 to 6)

Synopsis: Suddently broke, the formerly filthy-rich Rose family is reduced to living in a ramshackle motel in a town they once bought as a joke: Schitt’s Creek.

The Devil Judge

Synopsis: In a near-future dystopia, an enigmatic judge punishes the haves by carrying out his vision of justice in trials live-broadcast and voted on by citizens.

Will You Marry

Synopsis: A woman travels to Copenhagen to meet an online match, but her daughter doesn't trust her suitor. Can love mend a broken heart?

Mang Jose
