First cast members of 'Harry Potter' TV series revealed
Warner Bros. Discovery has officially unveiled the first wave of cast members for its highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series, which is set to stream on Max.
According to a press release, the HBO original series will cast award-winning actors as regulars, including John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), and Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid).
Recurring cast members, meanwhile, will include Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and five-time BAFTA winner Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
“We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life," Francesca Gardiner, showrunner and executive producer and Mark Mylod, director of multiple episodes and executive producer, said in a statement.
As for who will play the next Harry, Ron, and Hermione, Variety said that Warner Bros. opened a casting call for the trio, searching for kids between 9 and 11 years old of all races, ethnicities, and gender identities who are residents of the UK and Ireland.
The show is expected to start filming later this year at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden—the same place where the original Harry Potter movies were made.
Reports said that the series with JK Rowling as executive producer, will have different seasons, with each season based on one of the seven Harry Potter books. The series is set to be released in early 2027 and will stream exclusively on Max.
"Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring Harry Potter and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences and will stream exclusively on Max, where it’s available globally," Warner Bros. Discovery said.
It was in April when the company announced that a new TV series around the franchise would be made. Stories from each of the books will become a "decade-long series" featuring a new cast.
