An animated series based on Riot's League of Legends franchise will finally make its debut on Netflix later this year.

First announced during Riot's 10th anniversary, Netflix confirmed on Tuesday that the long-awaited series titled Arcane will premiere on the streaming service this fall. The video game adaptation was initially slated to be released last year but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Set in the utopian region of Piltover and the oppressed underground of Zaun, the story will revolve around the origins of two iconic League champions and the power that will tear them apart.

League of Legends has inspired global fervor and fandom and we’re thrilled to be the home of the first television series set in this universe, Arcane. The series promises to be a visually spectacular thrill ride that will have viewers on the edge of their seats," said Dominique Bazay, director, Original Animation for Netflix.

Meanwhile, Shauna Spenley, Global president of Entertainment at Riot Games, said: “Arcane was created as a love letter to our players and fans, who have been asking us for more cinematic experiences that dive deeper into the worlds and champions in League of Legends. Netflix, with its incredible global brand and shared goal of delivering premium, high quality content, is the perfect partner to help us bring Arcane to players around the globe."

Apart from Arcane, a number of video game adaptations are also coming to Netflix later this year. Some of the upcoming shows include Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Assassin's Creed, and The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

Netflix has yet to reveal the official release date of Arcane. For now, check out this 19-second teaser featuring LoL champions Vi and Jinx.
