A new CG-animated film featuring the iconic Japanese superhero Ultraman is currently in the works at Netflix.

The upcoming movie, which is being developed in partnership with Tsuburaya Productions, will be helmed by Shannon Tindle, whose previous works include 2016's Kubo and the Two Strings and 2009's Coraline.

Tindle will write the film's screenplay with Marc Haimes, while John Aoshima (Ducktales, Gravity Falls) will co-direct.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

Baseball superstar Ken Sato returns  to his home country of Japan to pick up the mantle of Earth-defending superhero Ultraman, but quickly finds more than he bargained for when he’s forced to raise the offspring of his greatest foe, a newborn Kaiju. Struggling to balance the roles of teammate and new father, Ken must confront his own ego, his estranged father, and the conniving Kaiju Defense Force to rise up and discover what it truly means to be Ultraman.

“Making this film is a dream come true, Tindle said in a statement. "What began as an original story inspired by my love for Eiji Tsuburaya’s Ultraman somehow became an actual Ultraman film thanks to the incredible trust of the team at Tsuburaya Productions, and the support of the folks at Netflix Animation. We’ve assembled an all-star team and I can’t wait to share our unique take on Ultraman with the rest of the world."

Netflix has yet to announce the cast and release date of the upcoming Ultraman film. The animated movie featuring the iconic Kaiju-slaying superhero is part of the streaming giant’s original slate of films which include Academy Award nominated titles like Klaus and Over the Moon.

Aside from Ultraman, there’s also an array of animated features coming to the streamer this year, such as Back to the Outback, Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Adventure, The Sea Beast, Wendell & Wild, My Father’s Dragon, and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.
