Popular American slasher horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer will be getting a series reboot courtesy of Amazon Studios, according to reports from entertainment website Deadline.

Amazon Studios have reportedly given a greenlight to proceed with the production work for a new TV series for I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Malaysian-Australian film director James Wan will be helming the project, while Sara Goodman will be taking on writing duties. Shay Hatten, Original Film's Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty, Erik Feig, Rob Hackett and Michael Clear will be the executive producers.

The modern remake will follow the same storyline and formula as the '90s movie where “In a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers are stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night.”

“The best horror franchises always have another scare coming, and this I Know What You Did Last Summer series from Sara Goodman is a perfectly twisted update to the iconic slasher movie. Any way you slice it, our global Prime Video customers will love this modern take on the fan favorite film,” says Amazon Studios COO and co-head for Television Albert Cheng.

Loosely based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, the original 1997 film was written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Jim Gillespie. It starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. The slasher horror movie was a big hit, grossing $125.2 million at the box office against a $17 million budget.
