Here’s something fun for families with younger kids to watch at home.
My Little Pony is getting a colorful new animated Netflix movie featuring the voices of some stars you may be very familiar with.
My Little Pony: A New Generation's voice cast includes High School Musical and The Princess Switch's Vanessa Hudgens as Sunny Starscout, BoJack Horseman's Kimiko Glenn as Izzy Moonbow, Enchanted's James Marsden as Hitch Trailblazer, Descendant's Sofia Carson as Pipp Petals and YouTuber-turned-TV host Liza Koshy as Zipp Storm.
The equine adventure brings together three different groups of horses: Earth Ponies, Unicorns, and Pegasi.
When magic suddenly disappears from the world, an idealistic Earth Pony named Sunny (Hudgens) teams up with open-hearted Unicorn Izzy (Glenn) to restore enchantment and unity. Traveling to faraway lands, the duo encounters brave Pegasi—Pipp (Carson) and Zipp (Koshy)—and the ever-responsible fellow Earth Pony Hitch (Marsden).
"Their mission is full of misadventures, but these new best friends each possess their own unique and special gifts that may be just what this ponyverse needs to restore magic and prove that even little ponies can make a big difference," reads the film's official synopsis.
Ken Jeong (Community), Elizabeth Perkins (Phyllis), Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Phil LaMarr (Alphabittle), and Michael McKean (Argyle) round out the rest of the voice cast.
Written by Tim Sullivan and Gillian Berrow, A New Generation was co-directed by Robert Cullen, José L. Ucha, and Mark Fattibene. Cecil Kramer and Peter Lewis are producers.
The animated fantasy film is a sequel to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and was orignally slated for a theatrical release by Paramount Pictures and Hasbro's Entertainment One. However, the studios sold the film to Netflix, where it will premiere on its original theatrical release date.
