LOOK: Jose Rizal is a playable character in 'Civilization VII'

Dr. Jose Rizal is a playable character in the upcoming strategy video game Civilization VII.

Ahead of the game's release, a teaser featuring the Filipino hero was dropped on YouTube.

In the video, Rizal is seen wearing his signature black suit with a red tie, holding a book, and speaking in his mother tongue, Filipino. 

"Walang bansang pinagmumulan ang katalinuhan," playable leader Rizal said in the trailer. 

"Long regarded as a hero of the Philippines, José Rizal was a passionate defender of the dignity and autonomy of Filipinos. He first gained his reputation as a political activist in Europe, criticizing the Spanish rule of his homeland, and though he advocated for peaceful reform and equal rights, Rizal was eventually tried and executed by the Spanish. Yet his revolutionary spirit could not be contained, and has inspired Filipinos ever since," a description on Civilization VII's website read.

The Pambansang Bayani features the unique ability to gain additional Culture and Gold per age when earning rewards from a Narrative Event, increased Celebration duration and Happiness, and additional Narrative Events. 

In the game, his attributes include being cultural and diplomatic. His "Kapwa" agenda also affects his relationships with other leaders.

Apart from Rizal, Civilization VII features other world leaders and revolutionaries Russian Empress Catherine The Great, French nobleman Marquis de Lafayette, American Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, American abolitionist and social activist Harriet Tubman, Muslim traveler and scholar Ibn Battuta, and Hausa warrior queen Amina.

Sid Meier's Civilization is a turn-based strategy 4X video game first released in 1991. The player takes on the role of a ruler of a civilization, building an empire to stand the test of time.

The seventh iteration of the title will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It drops on Feb. 11.
