A Facebook group with over 1.9 million members is set to have a TV show inspired by the Asian experience.

Dubbed 'Subtle Asian Traits,' the group founded in September of 2018 regularly posts discussions, questions, and memes on being Asian or being part of the Asian diaspora community.

"Our mission is to connect Asian individuals globally to create a community that celebrates the similarities and differences within the subtle traits of Asian culture and sub-cultures. So, feel free to add all your Asian friends," their description reads.

Meanwhile, the upcoming series will take the group's name while laying out the plot in a college setting. There's no word just yet on the show's cast and production timeline, though it's set to be written by Asian Canadian writers Ivan Tsang and Justin R. Ching, and produced by newcomer studio Jumpcut.

The founding members of the group broke the news alongside an article from The Hollywood Reporter.

"Growing up, many of us did not have the community to share some of the nuances of being Asian," they shared. "Starting the group, we never thought that Subtle Asian Traits would impact so many people and result in such a shared sentiment of belonging."

The group moderators added that they've been in talks with Asian directors and writers who want to bring the project to life, as they ultimately decided to lend TV rights to Jumpcut producer John Zhang.

"We’re humbled in being part of their vision to focus on the diverse 'subtle' Asian traits throughout the diasporic Asian community, and as part of this new wave of Asian representation in media dispelling stereotypes previously used to characterize us."

"We’ll be continuing discussions with the writers and producers of this project, which is still in early development, and we hope to share our excitement with everyone following suit!" they concluded.

Their announcement post has over 15k reactions as of writing.
