LIST: Movies screening at the Japanese Film Festival 2024

The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) is back again, bringing 14 films for audiences in the Philippines to watch and enjoy.

On Jan. 10, the Japanese Foundation Manila announced the return of the film festival which will take place from February 1 to March 3.

The lineup was later unveiled on Jan. 17, which includes the following titles and their screening dates at the Shangri-La Plaza:

  • The First Slam Dunk (2022)
    • Feb.1 at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 4 at 3:00 p.m., Feb. 10 at 5:10 p.m., and Feb. 11 at 2:55 p.m.
  • Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom (2023)
    • Feb. 2 at 1:00 p.m., Feb. 4 at 12:30 p.m., Feb. 10 - 2:40 p.m.
  • We Made a Beautiful Bouquet (2021)
    • Feb. 2 at 4:00 p.m., Feb. 6 at 4:00 p.m., Feb. 8 at 4:00 p.m.
  • Tokyo Story (1953)
    • Feb. 2 at 7:00 p.m., Feb. 8 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Detective Conan The Movie: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper (1997)

According to the JFF website, the films will be screened at the Shangri-La Red Carpet Cinema in Mandaluyong, the UPFI Film Center, SM City Baguio, SM City Iloilo, SM Seaside City Cebu, and SM City Davao.

Admission is free and will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

The Japanese Film Festival was first launched in 1997 bringing drama, anime, and mystery films from Japan to the Philippines.

In 2023, the annual festival marked its return to on-site screenings after holding its previous editions online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
