Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to star in a video game movie adaptation based on one of the "most badass games" that he's been playing for years.

In a recent interview with Men's Journal about his upcoming DC superhero movie Black Adam, The Rock said that he'll be starring in a video game movie that will be announced later this year.

"I can’t tell you which game in particular we’re doing, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re going to bring one of the biggest, most badass games to the screen—one that I’ve played for years," said Johnson.

Johnson has had his fair share of starring roles in video game movies.

He previously starred in the big screen adaptation of Doom, based on the classic FPS franchise which tanked at the box office, and 2018’s Rampage, a monster movie based on the 1986 arcade game by Midway.

He also starred as a video game character in the Jumanji remakes, 2017’s Jumani: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level.

Most recently, he made an appearance in the multiplayer game Fortnite.

And while many movies based on video games haven’t always been well-received by fans, The Rock promises that this is one video game adaptation gamers are going to love.

“I'm really excited to bring it to fans around the world,” he added. “Of course, we're going to do right by our gamer friends—but really we're just going to make a great movie.”

In case you’re wondering what games The Rock likes to play himself, it turns out he’s "always been a big Madden fan.”

While The Rock has not revealed what “badass” movie adaptation could be coming, that hasn’t stopped fans and media outlets from joking and speculating about the mystery video game movie role.

The cryptic teaser was revealed in response to a question about Johson working with Microsoft and Xbox in the past, which could narrow down the possible game titles.

While nothing has been confirmed, some serious titles that have been thrown in the mix include Gears of War, Halo, Call of Duty, God of War, Fortnite, or even a Doom sequel.

The former professional wrestler turned actor has been keeping busy. He’ll star in his own DC superhero film, Black Adam due out later this year, and has teased that his classic DC character may even get to fight Superman at some point.

The Rock is also voicing Krypto the Wonder Dog in DC’s upcoming League of Super-Pets animated film and is expected to return in two sequels for Netflix’s Red Notice along with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds.
