Restored version of The Beatles’ 1970 documentary 'Let It Be' set to be released on Disney+
Beatles fans, rejoice! Peter Jackson’s restored version of The Beatles: Let It Be will be made available for streaming for the first time in five decades.
As per the report by CNN, the 1970 film by Michael Lindsay-Hogg will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting May 8.
The film has been restored from the original by Peter Jackson under his production house Park Road Post Production. ICYMI, the Hobbit director was also the one who helmed the 2021 award-winning docuseries The Beatles: Get Back.
The documentary will show the band’s—comprising of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—journey from creating their final album dubbed Let It Be to performing it live for the first time. However, a month before its release, the group officially disbanded. None of the four members attended its premiere, as per The Guardian.
“One month before its release, The Beatles officially broke up. And so the people went to see Let It Be with sadness in their hearts, thinking, ‘I’ll never see The Beatles together again. I will never have that joy again,’ and it very much darkened the perception of the film,” Jackson said in the statement.
“But, in fact, how often do you get to see artists of this stature working together to make what they hear in their heads into songs? And then you get to the roof, and you see their excitement, camaraderie, and sheer joy in playing together again as a group and know, as we do now, that it was the final time, and we view it with the full understanding of who they were and still are and a little poignancy,” he added.
It is yet to be known whether the documentary will be available for subscribers in the Philippines.
The Beatles is one of the biggest bands in history, growing in popularity in the 60s. Throughout their career, they launched 12 studio albums, 5 live albums, 51 compilation albums, 36 EPs, and more, which included hit tracks like Here Comes The Sun, Let It Be, Hey Jude, Help!, Come Together, and Blackbird.
In 1970, the band split with members pursuing their own solo careers. Lennon was shot dead in New York in 1980 while Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001.
