'Kingdom' to release special episode on Jun Ji Hyun's mysterious character, Ashin
Heads up, zombie fans! Netflix’s amazing period zombie thriller Kingdom will be releasing a special episode featuring the mysterious figure that the crown prince of Joseon’s party encountered at the end of the second season.
The popular South Korean drama will be returning with a special one-episode bonus story that serves as exension of season two titled Kingdom: Ashin of the North which will tell the backstory of Ashin, the heir to the Northern Yeojin tribe, played by top Hallyu star Jun Ji Hyun.
Netflix Asia posted an 18-second teaser Sunday (Nov. 1) of the special episode which is expected to drop in 2021, with the caption: “Joseon. The Infection. The Origin.”
Jun Ji Hyun’s character became a trending topic after her short appearance at the end of Kingdom Season 2 earlier this year.
The South Korean actress first rose to fame for her role as the girl in the romantic comedy My Sassy Girl (2001), one of the highest-grossing Korean comedies of all time, as well as television series My Love from the Star (2013–2014) and Legend of the Blue Sea (2016–2017).
According to news reports, in addition to Ashin’s background story, the upcoming episode will also reveal the origin story of the resurrection plant ahead of Season 3.
Park Byung Eun, who plays the head of the Royal Commandery Min Chi Rok in Kingdom will reprise his role in the bonus episode.
The special episode will be helmed by director Kim Sung Hoon, who took charge of the general production of seasons one and two of Kingdom and will be co-produced by BA Entertainment and Studio Dragon.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North is expected to be released on Netflix in 2021.
