‘Legit na ako!’ Kim Chiu emotional after winning first TV hosting award for 'It's Showtime'
Hard work and perseverance pay off—just ask Kim Chiu, who won the Best Female TV Host award at the recently concluded 35th PMPC Star Awards for Television. The 32-year-old actress won the award for her work on the ABS-CBN noontime variety show It’s Showtime, a gig she got in 2020.
“Grabe, first award ko ito. Legit na ako, thank you so much. May resibo. I wanted to cry,” a teary-eyed Kim said during the Jan. 30 episode of It’s Showtime.
Although not a complete neophyte when it comes to hosting, Kim is more known as an actress, which made the recent win a bit sweeter.
Kim said she is aware hosting isn’t her “strength,” but is nonetheless thankful for the recognition. “Hindi ko naman strength ang histing. Naglalaro lang naman tayo rito, feeling ki. Pero salamat sa Showtime dahil binibigyan nyo ako ng pagkakataon. Every day, binibigyan niyp ako ng endless chance at endless opportunity."
She continued her celebration in an Instagram post on Jan. 30, revealing that she is aware of the “bashing” she is getting on her hosting—instead using the comments to improve.
“From guest co-host to regular host, from face shield to no face shield. From bashing to brushing it off and using it as constructive criticism, I used those words not to put me down but used them as a weapon to do better in what I am doing,” she wrote.
In the Instagram post, Kim repeated that she is aware that hosting is not her strength due to the tone of her voice—which some may describe as thin or wispy.
She added that Johnny "Mr. M" Manahan, former head of Star Magic, which manages Kim’s career, pushed her to attend “workshops in voice modulation” when she was starting out in show business.
But, considerable charisma eked out the chatter she had to endure over the years from people who have criticized her hosting skills and her very particular voice.
"Di ko gets before pero nahilot naman ng konti,” she joked, adding that she never thought she could actually be a TV host.
Kim is slated to star in the upcoming ABS-CBN drama Linlang with JM De Guzman, Paulo Avelino, and Maricel Soriano.
